The Drama Department prides itself on the energy, dedication and enthusiasm of its extracurricular activities and particularly is renowned for the success of its annual Senior School Production.

Past Productions include: The Wizard of OZ, Jesus Christ Superstar, Scrooge, Fame, The Sound of Music, Les Miserables and West Side Story. In February 2014 we staged Cameron Macintosh’s masterpiece ‘The Phantom of the Opera. Students had an amazing opportunity of rehearsing with one of the renowned performers from the West End production of Phantom, Peter Karrie. The show was a huge success and one which will be in the memory for a long time. This year we are performing We Will Rock You.

This year we are excited to launch a lower school Drama club with the aim of putting on various showcase events in addition to a lower school/primary school production in the summer term.

Students have the opportunity to follow the WJEC GCSE course or the Edexcel Performing Arts Level 2 Extended Certificate.

Key Stage 5

Students follow the WJEC A Level.

The department aim to deliver a diverse range of theatrical genres and specialist performance styles within their schemes of work, and also leading theatre visits throughout the year and inviting theatre professionals such as the ‘Stanislavski Experience’ to lead workshops. The year 13 students annually attend a ‘Creative Adaptation Workshop’ at the Wales Millennium Centre where they work on developing their examination pieces followed by a detailed tour of the Centre.

The department benefits from the excellent facilities, including a fully equipped drama studio with lighting and sound mixing desks and an extensive selection of theatrical resources. In addition we have a performance hall, which can accommodate 300 people for productions and other events.
